Spruce Up Your Style with Summer’s Hautest Trends

Love Where You Live | By Alisa Murray –

I am crazy about patterns, and recently I attended a Cabi party where the mixture of stripes and florals was all the rage. It is interesting just how much influence there is between the different sectors of art, architecture and interior design and what’s trending in fashion. There’s almost always a crossover between the different sectors each season. This spring there are many cool options to enjoy both in our homes – and to literally wear as well – what’s hot and trendy this summer.

Woods, Walls and  Wallpaper

The most current trends in home design this summer are marbleized woods and walls along with confetti countertops. We are seeing this in fashion in tops and skirts and in home décor in plates and wall art, and even more commitment places such as full on countertops. Pale blue gray is a beautiful trend in color for the walls, and it is also a nice departure from the usual suspects of black/white/gray as a skirt or a pullover in wardrobes. Scarfs with animal motifs are also a recurring theme in the latest designs and my favorite of all – wallpaper! Can we say fabulous?!?

Color Pops

Pops of color in unexpected hues of bold greens or spicy oranges are also making a statement in libraries, dens and playrooms. It’s the same in fashion as I fell in love with that bright yellow pair of mules, and when I wear them with a neutral palate, the yellow pulls the entire ensemble together.

Face Forward

Also trending are accessories featuring faces.  Last season we were using a hand or an animal bust in a very sculptural and neutral way. Now I am using some fantastic, funky cat pillows that look like my sweet William. For dog lovers, I have found something similar, and you can even get customized pillows made with your actual pets and children’s pics!

One thing is for sure:  no one worth their salt in design today is going to leave you with a boring white house or without an amazing conversation piece for you and your guests. There’s simply too many opportunities to make your home about you and the things that mean the most to you. Luckily for the crossover between fashion and interior design, you can be just as stunning as your home.  Creating beautiful spaces that are unforgettably you – I just love it!
