Mother’s Day Do It Yourself {DIY}

By Alisa Murray –

There are so many thoughtful gifts you can make for mom to celebrate her special day.  From homemade self-care baskets to planning a back yard picnic to whipping up a gorgeous painting that showcases your impression of her personality while honoring her with a piece of your creativity. Here’s a few ideas to help make this Mother’s Day a memorable one for mom:

1.  Self-Care Goodies

Grab a basket and fill it with masks, scrubs, bubble baths and bombs, her favorite perfume and lotions and a great book! If you need any help selecting a great read, check out the February issue of Fort Bend Focus at FortBendFocus.com for some of my favs.

2.  Chocolate and Bubbles

Fill a cute basket or container with chocolates, pretzels, a frame with a picture of the two of you, some sparkling wine and a few groovy patterned notepads, too.

3. Garden Guru

Grab a bucket perfect for gardening and fill it with seeds, pots, gloves and tools, a funky patterned water bottle and a cookbook or two.

A lovely painting that Victoria Ann created
for me! I just love that she and I share an artist’s soul.

4. Brunch Picnic

Fill a picnic basket with strawberries and cucumber sandwiches, bagels and smoked salmon with cream fraiche, caviar, a sprig of dill and some lemonade, too! Toss a blanket on the grass and spend the afternoon picnicking with no cell phones allowed.  Share time connecting in the sunshine over a beautiful picnic brunch.

5. Go Artistic

When you think about your mother, what images come to mind? Grab a canvas and create a painting that reflects how you see her. It can be a portrait of her or a collage of all of the things that define mom’s spirit.

Whatever you create for mom, she is certain to appreciate your DIY time, thought and effort. Happy Mother’s Day!
