Marital Milestones

March 26, 1994: And So It Began.

By Patti Parish-Kaminski, Publisher

This Saturday marks 28 years of matrimony to Mr. Kaminski. I would say that I have the wrinkles and the gray hair to prove it, but since I was a child bride, and I have really good people, I’m still holding up pretty well – at least I am in my own mind.

This passing of time thing perplexes me. It’s hard for me to think of our courtship as 28 years long, as I must confess there are more days than not that I am literally stunned that Mr. Kaminski still comes home at night. Sometimes I can be a lot. I don’t know why that is, but it is, and I accept that. Now I’m not trying to change anything at this point in my life, but I certainly can and will accept the things I cannot change. I’m just smart enough to know the difference. I think that’s in a prayer somewhere.

Fortunately for me, Mr. Kaminski accepts me being a lot, too, because I feel marriage to me is kind of like an E-ticket ride. There’s the incredibly trying, long lines that test your patience, physical strength and frankly just wear you out. There’s the spinning and flipping that make you nauseous, destroy your updo and annoy you to no end. There’s the upside-down that turns your world, your dreams and your stomach literally upside down. And there’s the highs and lows of the continual altitude changes of this roller coaster called life. All in all, marriage itself is a lot, and add in two kids, two dogs, the whole in sickness and health thing, moves, tiny car fires, in-laws, outlaws, multiple business ventures, itty bitty fender benders, and of course, me, and you’ve got a theme park full of carnival-type attractions.

Fortunately for me, Mr. Kaminski loves the arts – he appreciates the drama, the beauty and the sublime of the dance. So, here’s to another 28 years baby. I can promise you one thing: they won’t be boring. Happy Anniversary Mr. Kaminski! And thank you for still coming home every day, because I’m still here, and I’m still a lot – and always will be – just for you.

See y’all next week – on the porch!
