Marilyn, Merlot & Me

Toasting with Marilyn in my new digs at The Bentley Hotel on 290.

By Patti Parish-Kaminski, Publisher

It happened again. I ran away from home. I’ve forwarded my mail and sent for all my essential accoutrements: favorite books, good jewelry, pictures of my babies and my best people. Some days that includes Mr. Kaminski; some days, not so much.

Now I know what you’re thinking. I just got back to Texas, but I’m still in Texas. It’s just more fun at my new home away from home. I mean where else can you live in a Marilyn Monroe inspired room, float with flamingos and be within stumbling distance of a real live castle that serves wine ALL DAY LONG? This is not a typo. Yes, they serve wine, all day, every day. So naturally, I moved into the brand-new Bentley Hotel on 290 in Johnson City, because those sweet folks at the 290 Wine Castle will bring that wine – and lots of it – over to the hotel for you – no judgment. That’s my kind of place and my kind of people.

Floating with flamingos.

The creators behind both of these amazing establishments are dear friends Monique and Mike Chase. Turns out Mr. Kaminski went to high school with Monique, but I love her best, and the feeling is mutual, so I’ve claimed her as my BFF now. She’s 5 foot nothing, blonde, bubbly, smart as a whip and the most fun ever. She and hubby Mike, who can build and do dang near anything, have created a vino-inspired adult oasis reminiscent of old Hollywood mixed with King Arthur’s Court smack dab in the middle of the Texas Hill Country. It is a sight to behold and an experience to be had, hence my decision to relocate.

I’m always up for a grand adventure, so when Monique texted and said The Bentley was opening, I was all in. I mean, all of my favorite people were represented. In addition to my Marilyn abode, The Bentley Hotel boasts 14 theme room accommodations, including Audrey Hepburn, Andy Warhol, Sophia Loren, and many more plus the ultimate diva of design – Coco Chanel. A boutique hotel, The Bentley features an outdoor cabana wine bar, a resort-style pool and hot tub and an amazing welcome happy hour – and you bet we enjoyed it all – more than once! Plus, live entertainment in the cabana bar – and I’m not talking about me. Well, I was a bit entertaining, but there was someone else on piano there as well. Did I mention there was copious amounts of wine involved?

Now The Bentley Hotel website will tell you that the hotel is open Friday thru Sunday only, but I don’t think they’ve figured out I’m not leaving. Let’s keep that between us. For now, I’m trying to figure out whether I should take out the wall on right side or the left side of my Marilyn suite to add on a closet and office space. I’ll either gain Clint Eastwood or Andy Warhol. Who do y’all think will fit in with Marilyn and I best? Rugged cowboy or 1960s pop artist? Of course, Andy’s iconic painting of Marilyn is said to be expressive of his obsession of celebrity culture and repetition. Nah, we’re in Texas. We’ll stick with the cowboy. Sure hope Mike doesn’t notice the construction.

Y’all come visit when you can, and be my neighbor. And if you click on this link – https://www.290winecastle.com/The-Bentley-Hotel-On-290 – you will receive $80 off per night for the remainder of summer 2022!*
