Fired Up for the Fourth!
Summer is in full swing at Fort Bend Focus, and we are absolutely excited! Deadlines seem a little less looming, our schedues slow down a bit, and we take some time to enjoy the important things: friends, family and fun!
Summer fun is all about the kids, and in our absolutely! Kid Friendly section, we bring you some amazing summer fun activities for kids of all ages. Author and educator Dr. Rebecca Deurlein shares her thoughts on summer and advocates for breaks for our children, and frankly, I couldn’t agree more. Take a look at her article The Good Ol’ Summertime for an interesting and insightful perspective on the controversial topic of year-round school.
For some fun with friends and family, July 4th activities abound in Fort Bend! Starting on page 52, we have everything you need to celebrate our nation’s birthday from events to recipes to outdoor party ideas. I’ll admit that one of the things I love best about July 4th celebrations – other than spending time with family and friends – is the food. Erma Bombeck said, “You have to love a nation that celebrates its independence every July 4th not with a parade of guns, tanks and soldiers who file by the White House in a show of strength and muscle, but with family picnics where kids throw Frisbees, the potato salad gets iffy and the flies die from happiness. You may think you have overeaten, but it is patriotism.”

Just wanted to thank you for publishing the write-up and photos on Fort Bend Cares 4th Annual Doggone Fun Run that ran in the Out & About in the Heart of the Bend’ section of the June issue of Fort Bend Focus. It is great to see our friends and neighbors having fun with the added bonus of raising funds to support disadvantaged children here in Fort Bend. Our success is strengthened with the help of media friends like you!
I also enjoyed looking at all the newlyweds in the Blushing Brides section of the magazine. Such an exciting time for all these young people!
