Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital Ranked Among Top Hospitals in Texas in Annual U.S. News & World Report Survey


Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital is ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one of the leading hospitals in the Houston area and in the state.

This year, Houston Methodist Sugar Land ranked No. 6 in Houston, and No. 8 in Texas. The hospital also had its first nationally ranked specialty with diabetes and endocrinology ranked at No. 49.

Houston Methodist Sugar Land was also recognized in 12 additional types of care, including: Geriatrics, Pulmonology & Lung Surgery, Urology, Back Surgery (Spinal Fusion), COPD, Colon Cancer Surgery, Diabetes, Heart Bypass Surgery, Heart Failure, Kidney Failure, Pneumonia, Stroke.

U.S. News & World Report also named Houston Methodist Hospital in the Texas Medical Center No. 16 on its national Honor Roll, moving it up the list of the top hospitals in the country. This is also the 10th year in a row it has been named the No. 1 hospital in Texas.

The rankings are based on scores in patient care, patient safety, outcomes, nursing, advanced technology and reputation. U.S. News has ranked Houston Methodist Hospital in at least one specialty for the past 29 years and has placed it on its Honor Roll for the fifth time.

Houston Methodist Hospital received the maximum points for superior performance in 17 out of 17 common adult procedures and conditions including abdominal aortic aneurysm repair; aortic valve surgery; heart bypass surgery; heart failure; colon cancer surgery; chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD); hip replacement; knee replacement; lung cancer surgery; aortic valve replacement (TAVR); kidney failure; stroke; pneumonia; hip fracture; diabetes; heart attack; and back surgery (spinal fusion).

Ranked specialties include: cancer at No. 23; cardiology/heart surgery at No. 15; diabetes and endocrinology at No. 16; gastroenterology/GI surgery at No. 10; geriatrics at No. 22; gynecology at No. 19; neurology/neurosurgery at No. 21; orthopedics at No. 12; pulmonology and lung surgery at No. 19; and urology at No. 29.
