Fort Bend’s Friday Night Lights

By Molly Cardenas –

For some, fall is about sweaters and changing leaves. For others, images of Halloween and harvest come to mind. But, here in Fort Bend, fall means one thing and one thing only – time  for high school football.

Fortunately for fans, this season promises no shortage of games and a surplus of action. Fort Bend ISD, with its 11 varsity high school football teams all vying for wins, alongside the strapping Stafford Spartans and Fort Bend Christian Academy’s high-flying Eagles, color this county with pride and spirit.

Coach Steven Smith from Fort Bend Christian’s team of coaches said he and the Eagles are ready. “We are extremely excited about our potential this season. The players have been working really hard and have great attitudes. We expect to be in the mix when it’s all said and done.” With a competitive team and a set of passionate coaches, Eagles’ fans certainly have something to look forward to this season.

They’re not the only ones. Having conquered Bridge City in the 4A Division I regional playoffs and fighting their way to the state quarterfinals last season, the Stafford Spartans are ready for battle. Fans are ready, too, and students, teachers and families alike are known to cram the bleachers and instill a warrior’s spirit in their winning team. And for good reason, because when facing Fort Bend ISD, they’ll certainly need it.

This fierce and ferocious district roared with school spirit as three of its high school teams – Ridge Point, Willowridge and Elkins – tackled and touch-downed all the way to area this past season. Imagine the reaction when their very own Marshall Buffs plowed over the competition and stampeded onto the 2016 state quarterfinals. Enthusiasm for football in this district is clearly an inexhaustible resource.

Regardless of who you root for this fall, fans will have plenty of opportunities this season to enjoy the game close to home. To help you make it to your favorite team’s games, here are the 2017 High School Varisty Football Schedules for Fort Bend ISD, Stafford MSD and Fort Bend Christian Academy.  So Fort Bend, are you ready for some football?
