Jerrie Kammerman, principal at Missouri City Middle School (MCMS), is the recipient of the U.S. Department of Defense Patriot Employer Award presented by Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR). The Patriot Employer award recognizes employers who support their employees who serve in the National Guard or Reserve through such measures as arranging flexible schedules, granting time off prior to and after deployment, caring for families and granting leaves of absence if needed.

Kammerman received the award during a recent FBISD Board of Trustees meeting, where she was presented with a Department of Defense Certificate of Appreciation and a lapel pin. “I value the traits and commitment shown by the members of our Armed Services and feel it is our responsibility to support them,” said Kammerman.

MCMS teacher Jeanene Holliday, who serves as a Judge Advocate General for the U.S. Army Reserve, nominated Kammerman for the award. “Principal Kammerman, as well as all of the administration, has been extremely supportive of my occasional military leave,” said Holliday. “With everything going on in our country right now, I was required to participate in the military more frequently, which meant I had to step away from my duties as a school teacher. Thankfully, Principal Kammerman found creative ways for me to implement my lessons and make sure my students were taken care of during my time away. Having her in my corner has made it possible for me to serve my nation, as well as my students.”
