Fort Bend ISD is proud to announce the 2021 FBISD Elementary and Secondary Teachers of the Year. Rosa Castille of Colony Bend Elementary is the 2021 District Elementary Teacher of the Year, and Sherman Batiste of Elkins High School is the 2021 District Secondary Teacher of the Year. Superintendent Dr. Charles E. Dupre surprised both teachers with the great news in their classrooms.

Rosa Castille is a third-grade ELA and Social Studies teacher at Colony Bend Elementary. She feels her most significant contribution to education is dedication and the willingness to try new and innovative ideas. Castille believes teachers should cultivate collaboration, compassion, leadership, ownership and the love of learning in all students. She knows if children embrace these qualities, they can achieve futures beyond their imaginations.

Sherman Batiste.

Sherman Batiste teaches Social Studies at Elkins High School and serves as a coach and mentor. He understands that as an educator, he can either build or destroy. He chooses to build by extracting the best from his students. He strives to facilitate an environment conducive to effective communication, various levels of cognitive awareness, and diverse lifestyles. Batiste ensures his contributions to his students extend beyond the confines of a classroom.

The two honorees will advance to the regional Teacher of the Year competition, with an opportunity to advance to the Texas Teacher of the Year Program.
