February 2nd, 11:30 am – 12 pm

African Hand Drumming

Celebrate African-American history  month with Djembe drumming at the University Branch Library, located at 14010 University Boulevard in Sugar Land. Gregg Powell, founder and director of Joy of Djembe Drumming, will discuss its history and the culture of the people who use these drums. He will perform a variety of rhythms from different countries. February 3rd, 8 am

Be Incredibly Well 5K Run for Heart Health

This first annual run will take place at Oyster Creek Park, located at 4033 Highway 6 in Sugar Land. Help bring awareness to the importance of heart health in young girls and women. Run to support this worthy cause while also enjoying food trucks, vendor shopping, music and a kid zone. There will be medals for finishers and t-shirts for all registrants. Proceeds will benefit the Be Incredibly Well (BIW) Foundation and The American Heart Association. Preschool Story Lab

This creative story time encourages children to discover and explore concepts in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM). Preschool Story Lab debuts at the Sienna Branch Library, located at 8411 Sienna Springs Boulevard in Missouri City. A brief story time will introduce the topic, then children and their caregivers rotate through a variety of hands-on activities based on that topic. Dad & Daughter Dance

Save the date for Missouri City’s 22nd Annual  Dad & Daughter Dance at the Missouri City Community Center, located at 1522 Texas Parkway in Missouri City. This enchanted evening will be one your daughter won’t forget. Tickets can be purchased at the Missouri City Recreation & Tennis Center or online. Sienna Plantation Farmers Market

Fresh produce, locally sourced spreads and condiments and other foodie favorites can be found at this farmers market held at the train depot parking lot near the amphitheater, located at 9600 Scanlan Trace in Sienna Plantation. Launched in 2016, the market typically attracts more than three dozen vendors providing baked goods, beverages, meats, prepared foods, olive oils, honey, vegetables, spices, flowers and more. Visit www.siennafarmersmarket.com for more information.

Bite Night Fridays at Riverstone

A feast of food trucks is heading to The Club at Riverstone, located at 18353 University Boulevard, for a culinary event that will be held the second Friday of each month throughout the spring. Music and children’s activities will add to the  event which is open to the public. Leashed dogs are allowed. While most food trucks accept

Pound Fitness Workout Program

Are you looking for a new way to workout?  Fitness instructor Marinela Taylor will demonstrate a new fitness method inspired by using drumsticks to music. During this workout, she will discuss the nature, history and mission of POUND®. The workout will include a warm-up and cool-down. This program will be held at the University Branch Library, located at 14010 University Boulevard in Sugar Land. It is designed for older teens and adults. Valentine’s Dinner at the Museum

Join the Houston Museum of Natural Science Sugar Land, located at 13016 University Boulevard, for dinner amongst the exhibits as you and your sweetheart celebrate Valentine’s Day. The evening includes a reception in the exhibit halls and a three-course seated meal with wine. A special behind-the-scenes lecture will add to this memorable evening’s unique appeal. Post Valentines Tennis Tournament

Play like a pro or risk playing for “love” at  the Missouri City Recreation and Tennis Center, located at 2701 Cypress Point Drive. The cost is $20 per player with a $5 discount for members.This tournament is for divisions 18+: 7.0, 8.0, Open and 55 & over: 7.0, 8.0. Prizes, raffle ticket, and player’s lunch are included. Free Heart Health Screening

When it comes to matters of the heart, you don’t need to travel far. Visit the Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital, located at 16655 Southwest Freeway, to receive a free risk assessment to learn your 10-year risk for heart disease along with cholesterol and blood pressure screenings. Free AARP Tax Assistance

AARP representatives will assist in the preparation of income tax returns at the University Branch Library, located at 14010 University Boulevard in Sugar Land. This service is free and offered on a first-come, first-serve basis. GATORPALOOZA

Join us for this 20th annual event held at Sienna Crossing Elementary, located at 10011 Steep Bank Trace in Missouri City. Enjoy carnival games, inflatables, silent auction, messy zone and so much more. Food vendors will be on hand to satisfy your taste buds and keep you hydrated at this family-friendly event. Youth Computer Class – Hour of Code

Has your child ever been curious about coding or wanted to learn the ins-and-outs of how to code? Come visit the Sugar Land Branch Library, located at 550 Eldridge, for a look at computer coding using different online resources. This program is intended for children in 3rd through 8th grade.
