2017 Chevrolet Tahoe

absolutely! AUTO REVIEW | By Steve Kursar –

The 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe is the latest, updated version of an American classic. This is the quintessential true SUV, a body-on-frame, full-size family hauler that just continues to get better, quieter and more fun to drive.  Make no mistake, this is not a crossover: the Tahoe remains the real-deal SUV.  This vehicle is tough enough for any ranch road adventure and yet it’s refined enough for a night at the opera.

Chevrolet started selling SUVs in 1935 when they brought the very first Suburban to their dealers’ showrooms.  That very first Chevy SUV seems tiny by today’s standards, but it did prove that Americans wanted to drive a vehicle that has loads of room.  The very first Tahoe branded SUV made its debut in the very early 1990s and has remained one of the best selling SUVs ever since. And a quick note, Texans buy large SUVs at a rate of twice the national average.

With a MSRP of $47,215, the base Chevy Tahoe comes standard with the only engine option, a 355 hp, 5.3 liter V8, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.  Cylinder deactivation, a feature that allows the V8 engine to transform into a V4 while cruising, allows the Tahoe to deliver 16 mpg in the the city and an impressive 23 mpg on the highway.  Of course, it’s available in both 2-wheel and 4-wheel drive.

The roomy interior is definitely near-luxury with optional perforated, leather-trimmed heated and vented driver and passenger seats.  Even the third row is comfortable for adults.  There’s more than enough built-in technology to keep early adopters happy.  Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability are available so your smartphone is easily integrated into the Tahoe’s information system.  One particular feature that is instantly addictive is the WiFi hotspot with 4G LTE connectivity giving everyone in the vehicle Internet access.

Parents who allow their young adults to drive the Tahoe can enable the Standard Teen Driver feature which enables mom and dad to encourage safe driving habits.  Parents can view the Tahoe’s maximum speed, distance driven and the number of times active safety features were engaged during a drive.  It definitely provides parents with peace of mind.

If you’re looking for a vehicle to haul teenagers to school and after-school events, the Tahoe provides a roomy vehicle that fits everyone. It’s a great option if you need the space, but a minivan will never be in your future.
