Fort Bend County Libraries’ University Branch Library will have a Chinese New Year Celebration on Saturday, February 9th, from 10:30 am to 2 pm, in Meeting Rooms 1 and 2 of the library, located at 14010 University Blvd in Sugar Land, on the UH campus.
The library will have a lively family event celebrating the Year of the Pig, featuring a special Chinese New Year Story Time, traditional Chinese riddles, and craft activities, culminating with a performance by the North American Youth Chinese Orchestra.
Directed by Changlu Wu, the North America Youth Chinese Orchestra consists of talented young Chinese-American student musicians who are passionate about their culture and its music. Using the violin and flute, as well as Chinese instruments such as the pipa, guzheng and zhong ruan, the musicians will perform a variety of traditional Chinese musical pieces.
Materials and refreshments for the event are provided through the generous support of the Friends of the University Branch Library.
The Chinese New Year Celebration is free and open to the public. For more information, call the University Branch Library at 281-633-5100 or the library system’s Communications Office at 281-633-4734.
