The Beehive is Buzzing: The 17th Annual Great Grown-Up Spelling Bee

The Literacy Council is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to adult literacy education. Their mission is to improve community, family, and professional lives through adult literacy education.

The beehive is buzzing with excitement for the 17th Annual Great Grown-Up Spelling Bee, happening Thursday, September 10, 2026, at Sugar Creek Country Club.  The Literacy Council’s goal is to raise $54,000 to ensure adults in our community have access to life-changing educational opportunities. These funds support students as they work toward brighter futures through English as a Second Language, U.S. Citizenship, Digital Literacy, High School Equivalency, and Adult Basic Literacy programs.

Your support changes lives.  Students like Dennise, who left school to help support her family, returned to earn her GED through the Literacy Council. Today, she has achieved her dream of becoming a bus driver for Fort Bend ISD and enjoys greater financial stability and confidence. Stories like Dennise’s are possible because of partners like you.
