For many an integral part of any vacation is to play golf. Finding a beautiful course that offers a challenge to the experienced golfer while still enjoyable for the beginners is important. In Jamaica, the Sandals Golf and Country Club offer both. Started as Upton Golf Club in 1951, it is a course that is both beautiful and challenging. Sandals squired the course in 1992.
The course, designed by PK Saunders, began as a nine-hole course and was developed into a championship designed 18 hole. Located in the lush hills, Sandals Golf and Country Club is a 15-minute drive from Ochi Rios. The course rises 750 feet above sea level and plays to 6,404 yards. It has rol-ling fairways accompanied by breathtaking views of the sea and mountains.
On the course, guests will find a full service driving range, along with practice chipping and putting greens. Full service changing facilities with showers are also provided on site. In addition, there’s a Sweet Spot Jerk Shack located at the number 10 green for course dining and a restaurant in the gorgeous plantation-style club house.
For guests staying at Sandals and Beaches resorts in Ochi Rios, there are complimentary transfers and workshops. The Resort Caddy Experience is mandatory as all golfers are required to have a course caddy. The Welcome to Golf workshops are held every Tuesday and Wednesday with childrens’ workshops held each Wednesday. The commitment to giving back, as seen in The Foundation that serves the community outreach efforts through Sandals and Beaches resorts, also provides an extensive program to serve under privileged youth desiring to becoming pros at this sport.
The Sandals Golf and Country Club has won a four-star rating from Golf Digest Magazine and Frommers Travel Guide. It is a beautiful excursion for guests vacationing in Ochi Rios.
