OutRun Hunger 5K Turns Kilometers into Meals on September 25th

A little exercise will go a long way toward feeding hungry families during the OutRun Hunger 5K Family Walk and Run, Sunday, September 25th, at Harvest Green.

Registration and sponsorship opportunities are ongoing for the event, which benefits East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry, a local non-profit that provides assistance to families and individuals during times of temporary financial crisis.

The race starts with an 8:30 am kids’ run at the Farmhouse, 3400 Harvest Corner Drive, followed by a family 5K race at 9 am. A party at the finish line follows, featuring Messina Hof wine, Blockhouse coffee, vendors, food trucks and more.

Fees are $25 for adults and $15 for youths. Virtual runner registration is available for $15. Participants can register at online at https://runsignup.com/Race/TX/Richmond/AnnualOutRunHunger or the day of the race. All proceeds benefit the East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry.

Event organizers hope to raise $20,000 this year.

“Last year the race had to be run virtually,” said Stacey Williams, development director for East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry. ”In spite of that, we raised $15,000. This year, people can run Harvest Green’s beautiful trails in person. We hope everyone will come out and support us.”

Last year, the race attracted 200 participants as well as 33 sponsors. Sponsorships contributed more than $10,000 to the proceeds.

Harvest Green will be the title sponsor for the fourth year in a row. An additional 34 sponsors have already signed on. Sponsorships are still available at four levels — bronze for $100; silver, $300; gold, $500; and platinum, $1,000. Each level of sponsorship receives a number of entries.

East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry is a local non-profit that has been providing assistance to families and individuals during times of temporary financial crisis since 1990. Last year, the organization distributed $616,336.49 worth of food to families in need, including 7,075 families who received 10,849 Covid-19 Relief Sacks.

“We see at least one new family every day that we serve food,” Williams said. “The need is still out there. We are grateful to Harvest Green, our sponsors and our participants. Without them we would not be able to help so many people in the community.”
