Celebrating Mr. Kaminski Day! It’s an annual thing.

‘Tis the season at Casa Kaminski, and I’m not talking about Christmas or The University of Texas football season, though the latter is totally a season meritorious of celebrating in my humble abode.

The season that I’m referring to is the blessed season when a soul enters the world as we know it.  For some reason, so many of my people have been birthed in the fall.  There’s Mother, Mr. Kaminski, our eldest, so many close friends and of course, yours truly.

We kick off this season of frivolity and fun in September, and then it heats up with birthdays literally every week or two until January.  Guess a lot of my folks had fun New Year’s Eve or Valentine’s Day.  There are literally so many auspicious occasions during this timeframe, it was the very genesis of me establishing a gift closet years ago.  I literally shop all year long to be prepared for the multitude of birthday bashes.

This week we celebrate Mr. Kaminski Day.  He doesn’t relish the term “birthday,” so we’ll just call it Mr. Kaminski Day.  This year doesn’t mark a milestone per se, but you know your girl.  I always try to make it special.  Plus it’s only one day a year, so I can represent, and it’s a bonus because I’m younger than he is, much younger.

In honor of Mr. Kaminski Day, I’m going to share the top 5 things I appreciate about him most.  Here goes:

  1. Mr. Kaminski’s eyesight is failing; therefore, he cannot see my gray hair, wrinkles or wardrobe faux pas.  It’s a win for me.
  2. Mr. Kaminski has completely removed the word “no” from his vocabulary when responding to my inquiries or suggestions. It only took 32 years.
  3. Mr. Kaminski still thinks I hung the moon and stars. He has not realized that I am completely incapable of reaching high things anymore, and I’m no longer allowed to climb ladders.
  4. Mr. Kaminski loves me in spite of me. There’s a lot to unpack there.
  5. Mr. Kaminski still opens my doors, pulls out my chairs, pumps my gas, buckles my shoes when I can’t reach my feet because my dress is too tight, gets out and packs up all my holiday décor without fussing and carries my bags. I have a lot of bags.

September 27th is Mr. Kaminski Day, so mark your calendars.  It’s a thing.  See y’all next week – on the porch!
