Lamar CISD Names New School in Cross Creek West

Lamar Consolidated Independent School District (LCISD) has named Elementary #36 now under construction now in Cross Creek West.

A new elementary school opening in Cross Creek West next year has been named after Lamar CISD teachers Dick and Marinella Haygood

Slated to open in fall 2025, Haygood Elementary is named for local husband and wife LCISD teachers James “Dick” Richard and Marinella Haygood. In addition to teaching, the pair spent many years serving the community. Dick was a Boy Scout leader, Little League coach, member of the Optimist Club and frequent visitor to nursing homes to entertain residents as a singer and storyteller.

Marinella taught art for more than 27 years and is credited with building a strong art program at Lamar CISD High School. She also gave private art lessons and was actively involved with the Visual Art Council. The Haygoods were married for 53 years. Dick passed away in 2009; Marinella passed away in 2015.

“This couple was known for their kind hearts and generous community spirit,” said Cross Creek West Senior Vice President and General Manager Rob Bamford. “Their service is an inspiration for the young students who will attend their namesake elementary.”

The district reports construction of the new school — funded through the 2022 bond election — is on time.

Haygood Elementary won’t be the only school within Cross Creek West. Earlier this year, the school district closed on 100 acres within the community for two new schools. The multi-school complex will be located in the northern portion of Cross Creek West and is also part of the 2022 bond referendum. The new schools are expected to open in August 2027.

Cross Creek West is located on FM 359 north of downtown Fulshear. Five builders offer homes in the community priced from the $400,000s. Currently, young residents attend McNeill Elementary, Roberts Middle School, Dean Leaman Jr. High and Fulshear High School. Learn more at www.crosscreekwesttx.com.
