Judge Chris Morales announced that he will seek a third term as Judge of County Court at Law No. 1. Over the years Judge Morales’ faithful service to Fort Bend County is evident in the many changes that have taken place at the courthouse.
Since taking office, Judge Morales has been instrumental in implementing new technologies in the courtroom that have not only reduced taxpayer costs, but have also ensured the courts evolve with societal and technological changes. This was never more evident than in March of 2020, when the COVID-19 Pandemic shut down the courts. “COVID has had a major impact on the way the courts operate. In the beginning, many courts struggled to adapt to a new way of conducting business, but thanks to my insight into emerging technologies, I was able to quickly adopt virtual conferencing technology to conduct remote hearings, reducing the impact on my court’s operations,” said Judge Morales. “For years I have been urging the county to put in place the technology needed to conduct virtual hearings. I have always believed that through technology, we can improve the public’s access to the courts and improve court efficiency. Implementing this technology throughout COVID has been instrumental on my court’s efficiency. I am thankful I have been able to continue to serve my community through this crisis.”
Judge Morales also oversees Fort Bend County’s only misdemeanor mental health court. The court is designed to reduce recidivism rates and improve the quality of life among adults with mental illness. Judge Morales is a lifelong resident of Fort Bend County, graduating from B.F. Terry High School in Rosenberg and Texas A&M University in College Station. He is married to his high school sweetheart and fellow Texas A&M graduate, Vanessa Morales. Judge Morales and Vanessa have been members at River Pointe Church in Richmond for over 10 years, and they have two children, Madelyn, age 11, and William, age 8.
