Does your back constantly ache after a long day at work? Do you have a sharp pain that makes it hard to get out of bed in the morning? Or are you frustrated because you cannot play with your children or grandchildren? You don’t have to suffer in silence. Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital is excited to announce an upcoming seminar dedicated to back and neck pain. This free event, set for Thursday, September 12, is open to the public.
“Here at Houston Methodist Sugar Land, we see the impact that back and neck pain can have on our patients’ lives every day,” said Christopher Sy, M.D., neurosurgeon with the Houston Methodist Department of Neurosurgery at Sugar Land. “This seminar is our way to reach out to those in our community who feel overwhelmed by their pain. We want to let them know there are a variety of effective treatments within reach. They don’t have to face continuous restless nights due to pain on their own.”
This seminar will be held at the Brazos Pavilion Conference Center from 6 – 7 p.m. Admission is free, but space is limited, so early registration is encouraged. The seminar will cover a range of topics, including non-surgical treatments, surgical options and preventive measures to maintain spinal health. Along with Dr. Sy, participants will hear from Marvin Chang, M.D., pain medicine specialist and Marcela Rojas Roman, who holds a doctorate in physical therapy. All three are with the Houston Methodist Neuroscience & Spine Center at Sugar Land.
“Back pain is incredibly common, especially as we age,” Sy said. “But just because we are getting older doesn’t mean we are out of options. The spine is made up of several bones, discs, tendons, and ligaments in addition to the spinal cord itself. We want to explain how everything works together and can provide resources so they can find relief. Our mission is to alleviate pain, and the ultimate goal
is to improve mobility as well as overall quality of life.”
