Over 8,7000 community members received vaccinations at Houston Methodist Sugar Land’s Mega Community Vaccine Event.
Six hundred Houston Methodist volunteers assisted with the three-day vaccine event.
Although the weather started off dreary for Houston Methodist Sugar Land’s Mega Community Vaccine Event, it did not stop over 8,700 members of the community from getting their COVID-19 vaccine. The event, held on the hospital’s campus February 5th through 7th, was part of the state-designated vaccine hub program for at-risk community members, which included those 65 and older.
Houston Methodist Sugar Land’s Janet Leatherwood and Chris Siebenaler visited with State Representative Jacey Jetton who supported Houston Methodist Sugar Land’s Mega Community Vaccine Event.
Vaccine recipients were greeted each day by one of the 600 Houston Methodist volunteers who were overjoyed to help with the event. “Not only did our employees step up to make this event a success, but the community rallied around us to make getting vaccinated an enjoyable time,” said Regional Senior Vice President and CEO of Houston Methodist Sugar Land Chris Siebenaler. “We had meals and snacks for our hard-working volunteers and music, balloons and yard signs to liven up the atmosphere for our patients; all donated by generous members of the Sugar Land community. It was incredible to see.”
To date, Houston Methodist has given over 190,000 vaccines across the Houston Metro area and Houston Methodist Sugar Land continues to vaccinate about 750 community members each day.
