Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital.
We’re seeing an alarming spike in the number of COVID-19 cases across the Houston area, with the steepest increase happening over the weekend. The increased hospitalizations add stress to many of our hospitals that are nearing capacity. A week ago yesterday, Houston Methodist had a little over 100 COVID-19 patients across our hospital system. On July 20, 2021, we saw more than 185 COVID-19 patients. Here at Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital, we have 28 COVID-19 patients. The vast majority of those hospitalized are unvaccinated. Approximately 85% of our hospitalized COVID-19 patients have the Delta variant, and we now have identified our first Lambda variant.
Houston Methodist Sugar Land and our medical leaders across the system say we, as a community, need to step up our vigilance and impress upon people to get vaccinated and decrease virus spread.
