December has only just begun, and the joy of Christmas is already well underway! I’ve heard a lot from my friends about their Christmas wishes – time with family and friends, a new household appliance (I question that), a break from the daily grind (I get that), youth (I REALLY get that!). But not this girl. I got what I want for Christmas – at least until January 1st.
For the first time since 2009 – 14 years because math is hard – my beloved University of Texas Longhorns have won the Big 12 Championship! It’s a thing; it’s a huge thing! The 2009 game was quarterbacked by Colt McCoy, and we watched it in Colorado Springs, Colorado while there for Thanksgiving. It was a beauty to behold.
This year Quinn Ewers is at the helm with a baby Manning on the bench, growing him up, and it is definitely a year to remember. Now I don’t miss the Longhorns on the grid iron, and that has proven challenging for Mr. Kaminski over the years as we tend to travel in the fall and during the holidays. I won’t stay at a hotel if they don’t have the Longhorn network or the appropriate sports channel where the game will be televised. If we are traveling, and on the road, I have my Xfinity account up on my laptop for three plus hours. Mr. Kaminski does not love that, but he made his choice, so I can’t help him on that one. We have literally changed our travel plans on numerous occasions to accommodate the boys in burnt orange. I have no regrets. Loyalty is important.
It’s not like winning the Big 12, or a national championship for that matter, is unchartered territory for Texas’ team. We’ve won three national championships, but it’s been a minute. The best things in life are worth waiting for after all.
But this year, our final one in the Big 12, we go out on top – as Number One. It’s definitely making the season merry and bright for me. On New Year’s Day, we take the next step and defeat Washington kicking off 2024 on a winning note. I’m nothing if not positive.
And next year as we join the SEC, we will once again face our rivals Texas A & M Thanksgiving 2024 in College Station. The last time we met on the field in 2011, we beat the Aggies – in case you’re keeping score. Then they left the Big 12 for the SEC, escaping our wrath. But on November 30, 2024 – we’re back, so get the burgundy boys ready!
My Christmas message for my Texas friends and beloved boys in burnt orange is simple: Hook ‘em forever, and ho, ho hugs! See y’all next week – on the porch!
