John Foster Dulles High School in Fort Bend Independent School District is one of the first and oldest high schools in the area. The math and science academy is advancing in its fifth year of successfully teaching the best and the brightest students. It continues to improve facilities and stay on top of changing curriculum to adequately prepare students for the future. One Dulles High School senior who is a visual and musical artist, an academic scholar and a humanitarian is David Belleza.

David is an artistic student. In eighth grade, just before his freshman year, his logo design was chosen as Dulles Middle School Band’s time capsule emblem. The capsule, which is now installed on school grounds, is a le-gacy David will leave behind long after his Dulles High School days.

David is a talented performer and a leader. He has been a member of the Dulles Marching Band all four years of his high school career. This year, David achieved the top distinction of drum major. He was also drill instructor this year and as a junior. When asked what he has achieved as drum major, David replied, “Leading the band as one of the drum majors taught me some powerful lessons. I had to always give my all while motivating my peers to do the same, and if we did fail or have setbacks, I had to be the first to stand ourselves back up and do better.”

David also plays the guitar, piano, ukulele and bassoon and writes his own music. One of his favorite hobbies is singing. He is the tenor section leader as a senior of the Dulles Varsity Choir. He enjoys his involvement in the Dulles Viking Theater Company as well. During his junior year, David performed and entertained the audience in the musical Godspell and this year, the musical Seussical. He values hard work to accomplish his goals. He said, “The hard work, dedication and determination to succeed will always be with me. That I believe.”

Academically, David is at the top of his class. Almost all of his courses are Advanced Placement (AP). “Taking honors and AP classes is hard work. The classes require studying late at night for homework, challenging exams and demanding projects. On the other hand, it rewards great satisfaction. Finding out that I received good grades creates motivation to continue achieving.” David was presented with the Academic Excellence Award as a freshman and sophomore and achieved perfect attendance as a junior. He is also a member of the National Honor Society.

In his free time, David enjoys playing ultimate Frisbee, cooking and baking. He devotes many hours to helping people in need. Teens Assisting Special Kids (TASK) is an organization he feels strongly about. This group helps disabled kids by allowing them to feel good about who they are. They hold many social events for the kids, such as attending sports games, trick or treating or their own special prom.

In the Red Cross Club, David teaches the youth about social issues like disease prevention and child slavery. “By helping the community, I know that my time and effort will be put into something good. I feel a contentment knowing I was able to help the less fortunate.”

David also volunteers his time at various churches around Fort Bend helping at bazaars, social community projects and in mass services. Every week, David hosts and leads a small group of high school students for an hour of prayer, worship and Bible study.

David will attend college at Texas A&M University in College Station and plans to study Petroleum Engineering. With so much hard work, dedication and determination, David will continue climbing to greater heights. Congratulations and good luck as you continue your journey on the path of success.
