TRAVEL

I know school has just started for most, but Labor Day is literally the last hurrah of summer. Since there is a three-day weekend coming up at the end of this month, we rounded up some of our staff favorites for fun weekend getaways. All you have left to do is pack a bag, and enjoy!

Lakeway Resort and Spa

Cap off your summer with a Labor Day Weekend stay at Lakeway Resort and Spa where families can enjoy sunset sailing cruises, poolside movies, fun in the resort’s Kid Zone and more. Just a short drive from Houston, Lakeway Resort and Spa is the ideal spot for a Labor Day Weekend getaway, where fully redesigned guest rooms create a modern living space built with families in mind.

But it’s the outdoors that keep families busy with three outdoor pools including a kids’ pool with new water features like giant hoses and pop fountains that will have the little ones entertained for hours. When the afternoon heats up, the Kid Zone is an indoor oasis with fun-filled activity areas featuring arts and crafts, board games, video games and lots of space to run and play. While kids play the day away, adults can find time to relax by the adults-only pool, relieve stress in the San Saba Spa or enjoy dinner for two at Masterson’s Steakhouse. www.lakewayresortandspa.com

La Toretta Lake Resort & Spa

For Labor Day Weekend 2014, the more families play at La Torretta Lake Resort & Spa on Lake Conroe, the more they save. The AAA Four Diamond lakeside Texas resort is wrapping up summer with its “Play More, Save More” savings, valid Labor Day weekend, where guests can save 20 percent on a two-night stay and 30 percent off a stay of three nights or more.

The all-suite resort on Lake Conroe offers families an amazing water park with multiple pools, Lay-Z River Rapids and twisting water slides, miniature golf, 18 holes of championship golf, and new this year, paddleboats, kayaks and stand-up paddle boards on Lake Conroe available for rent by the hour. Just steps from the resort’s Aqua Park is the Breeze Buster pool, Splash Scape pool with in-water playground and the Pollywogs pool for small children.

When out of the water, families can enjoy La Torretta’s miniature golf course, lighted for night play, five lighted, hard-surface tennis courts, indoor racquetball courts and a spacious fitness center. Clubs, racquets and balls are provided at no charge. Or, relax on the resort’s private white, sandy beach where kids can build sandcastles and enjoy the lakeside view. www.latorrettalakeresort.com
