Fort Bend Christian’s Lady Eagles Win State Runner-Up

300eaglesThe Fort Bend Christian Lady Eagles basketball team made history this year by finishing the 2012-2013 season as the best in the history of the twenty-six year old school.  The high school girls’ varsity basketball team broke – and established – virtually every school record in the sport, and the team concluded the year as the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) 4A State Runner-Up at the State Playoffs in Mansfield, Texas in March.

With a record of 41-4, the Lady Eagles won five tournaments during the season and claimed the District, Bi-District, Area and Regional Championships. They established school records for wins in a season games played, scoring, averaging 58.15 points per game, and margin of victory, with 23 points a contest.

All five starters on the team received numerous post-season honors. Seniors Briana LaChapelle, Bailey Wood and Taylor Forrest were all selected for the All-District First Team. Senior Danielle Thiessen and freshman Kat Mantel were selected to the All-District Second Team.  LaChapelle and Wood were both named All-State, with LaChapelle grabbing First Team All-State honors and Wood being listed on the Honorable Mention squad.  Forrest and Wood were both chosen for the All-Tournament team at the state tournament.

Wood finished her basketball career as the all-time leading scorer and rebounder at Fort Bend Christian. LaChapelle is now the all-time leader in both steals and assists, and ranks third in the career scoring and rebounding charts. Forrest set the school record for most three point baskets made in a season.

“The success the Lady Eagles enjoyed this season is something we will always remember. To win five tournaments and advance to the state title game, while winning 41 games, is an amazing accomplishment,” said Head Coach Jon Froelich, Fort Bend Christian Academy.

The Lady Eagles, coached by Jon Froelich with assistant coaches Brad Simmons and Cieara Watts, have won 101 games over the last three seasons, an average of over 33 wins per season. Though the team will graduate five seniors, the future continues to look bright for the Lady Eagles. The junior varsity program ended the season 21-4 with several players slated to suit up for next season.
