Fort Bend Cares Spokesdog Rain and her owner Laura Winters.
Meet Rain, Fort Bend Cares spokesdog for the 2nd Annual Doggone Fun Run scheduled for Saturday, April 11th, at Memorial Park in Sugar Land. A black lab mix, Rain was adopted from Sugar Land Animal Services on May 8, 2012 by the Winters Family. She is approximately seven-years-old. Although underweight and infected with hookworms and heartworms upon arrival at the shelter, Rain is now healthy and loves life!
No stranger to adversity herself, Rain is “pawsitively” excited to help spread the word about the Fort Bend Cares Doggone Fun Run to raise funds to support non-profit organizations that serve disadvantaged children and youth in Fort Bend County. This year, to show support of our four-legged friends as well, Fort Bend Cares will donate a small portion of proceeds from this event to the Sugar Land Animal Services shelter.
The Doggone Fun Run includes a competitive chip timed 5K run without dogs and a 5K Run and a 1 mile Fun Run/Walk with or without dogs, so there is something for everyone and every dog! There will be medals for age group winners of the competitive 5K Run, along with prizes for winners of the “canine costume competition.” Come early and stay late to peruse vendor booths, enjoy DJ music, learn tips from a local dog trainer and more.
Early registration is $25 per person or $75 for a family of three or more. Each registrant will receive a t-shirt and a bandana for their favorite dog. On race day, t-shirts and bandanas are only available while supplies last. Dog owners must ensure canine participants are on a non-retractable leash and must show proof of current rabies vaccination. Mark your calendars and join Rain for some Doggone Fun at Memorial Park in Sugar Land!
