Dogs and owners of all ages and sizes are invited to walk, run or race to benefit underprivileged youth in Fort Bend County at the first annual Fort Bend Cares “Doggone Fun Run/Walk” on Saturday, April 12th at Memorial Park Sugar Land.
A 5K Run will begin at 8 am, and 1 Mile Run/Walk, with or without dog, will begin at 8:30 am. Medals will be given for age group winners of the competitive 5K run, along with prizes for the best in show winners in the “canine costume competition.” Fun and entertainment is promised for dogs and owners alike as they run or walk to DJ music, enjoy tips from a local dog trainer and enjoy the canine kissing booth.
Kate, Matt, Claire and Becca Phillips, Mary Rey, Christina and Ben Hough, Curtis Duncan, Rebecca Chen, Carl Favre, Shelby and Louie Bastin, Sydney, Raegan, Melanie, Jared and Katherine Rossi, Ari and Connor Phillips, Scout Rey, Rue Hough, Dutchess Duncan, Benji Chen, Charlie Favre and Luke and Maggie Rossi.
“Top Dog” Sponsor Dr. Michael Bornstein Pediatric Center, along with Silver Eagle Distributors, Briggs and Veselka and Kevin Patton State Farm, have a “leg up” on sponsoring the event. In kind sponsors Kroger and Legacy Ford are donating the food and water for all event participants. Sponsorships are still available for $5,000, $2,500 and $1,500. Vendor spaces are also still available for all those dog lovers or enthusiasts who are “begging” to get involved with this new and exciting Fort Bend County event.
Registration is $35 for one person/one dog and $85 for a family (three or more) with or without dog. Race Day Registration is $40 for one person/one dog and $95 for a family (three or more) with or without dog. Wheelchair entrants with dogs can enter at no charge.
Each registrant will receive a t-shirt and bandana for their dog. T-shirts and bandanas will be given out at race day registration while supplies last. Dogs must show proof of current rabies vaccination and be on a non-retractable leash.
Fort Bend Cares has raised more than $1 million dollars in the past nine years for approximately 40 different organizations that serve disadvantaged children and youth in Fort Bend County. Recently, the Ninth Annual “Road Trip to the Winter Games” dinner party fundraiser held February 1st raised more than $155,000 to help fund programs for the neediest or underprivileged youth in county.
