April 2020 – Exclamation Points!

Fort Bend Strong –

This is the second magazine that we have sent to press this month amidst the Coronavirus outbreak. When we went to press earlier this month, Fort Bend had the first case of “presumptive positive” Coronavirus (COVID-19). Today as we go to press, the number of Fort Bend cases has climbed to double digits, a public health disaster declaration has been issued for Fort Bend and Harris Counties, universities have closed throughout the country and Fort Bend ISD and Lamar Consolidated ISD have extended their spring break to keep their campuses closed.

Multiple events throughout the county have been canceled, and while we have made a diligent effort to keep up with the changes in our magazines, the calendar is changing very rapidly. We have received notification of event cancellations through the end of April as of press time, and to help keep you informed, www.FortBendFocus.com has a listing of canceled community events that is being regularly updated. Additionally, all of our digital issues of absolutely! focus media publications have an updated list of canceled events, so be sure to opt in to receive our digital issues for the most up to date event cancellations at www.FortBendFocus.com.

I had the opportunity to speak with Houston Methodist Sugar Land infectious disease specialist Dr. Sarfraz Aly before going to press. Dr. Aly emphasized that Fort Bend healthcare is prepared. He also stressed that our best protection really is in our hands: “Washing your hands with soap and water is the best way to protect yourself.”

As we celebrate Easter this month, I encourage our community to remember our blessings. We will bounce back as we are a resilient community; we are Fort Bend Strong. Be safe, take care of yourselves and your families, and as our Fort Bend community is accustomed to doing, take care of each other – and wash your hands!

Stay focused and stay well,
